PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Course

November 30, 2022

Today, your diving buddy Tom will share his experience of taking the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Course this week.

Hi Tom, what can you tell us about the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Course?

Well, when I just started diving, I struggled a bit with my gear. We all recognize that feeling of a less-experienced diver being focused on your equipment rather than your surroundings.

That is why, when I took Peak Performance Buoyancy course, what struck me was the ease with which some divers moved with what looked like zero effort. It also looked exquisite to me as they glided through the water. Later, I learned they were what is called neutrally buoyant. You neither sink nor float. It looked like mantas or eagle rays with grace, conjuring visions of a flying carpet and hovering over sea beds, which is exactly what I wanted to learn.

What else did you learn during the course?

Well, I additionally learned to achieve the required balance by trimming my weight system and gear. After the course, I could apply air more efficiently, enabling me to move smoothly underwater. In this way, you are able to hover easily, both vertically and horizontally.

Plus, you will learn to determine the exact weight you need not to be too light or heavy. The instructor teaches you to trim your weights and scuba gear to balance perfectly in the water. I managed to control my energy, use air more efficiently and move more smoothly through the water.

If you are curious already, you can start practicing buoyancy skills with our DBA licensed instructor. You will be accompanied on different dives to improve your buoyancy skills by determining the perfect extra weight you need.

This all sounds amazing, but what impressed you the most, Tom?

When you master your buoyancy, you tend to be less engaged with your gear and equipment and enjoy marine life more. It is just sensational when you ascend, descend and hover easily in complete control. What is more, you are not the only one who benefits from achieving neutral buoyancy because it contributes to a less impact on the surrounding environment.

To summarize, please, advise who is entitled to take the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course?

You are eligible to take the Peak Performance Buoyancy course when you have your PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers certificate and are at least 10 years old with a parental approval in case if less than 18 years old.
